QuiltCon 2015 - what a great experience! I met so many wonderful people, learned so much, and the fabrics and toys on display were soooo tempting! That's where this blog post got its start...

My friend Stacey M brought back to the hotel this stack of spectacularly fabulous fat quarters she had bought earlier in the day from none other than Crimson Tate . Well she fell in love with one particular print and couldn't stop "petting" this nice grey one with squares around flowers, and I'll have to say it was pretty awesome. It was one of those prints you could use for anything - bags, bindings, linings in a bag or purse, backing on a quilt, trim on apron, borders, etc...you know the kind. So I decided to hit the vendor mall  and surprise her with some yardage...........lucky for me I was able to get the last two yards available! YEAH!

 Well quilter friends, I couldn't let her have that spectacularly precious loot all to herself, especially headed back to Vancouver B.C. where I wouldn't have a chance to get it any time soon - if ever!! Soooo, I bought myself a bundle of half yards too!

One of the best parts of attending these events is the chance to see what other quilters are doing and to meet new people, and I'm glad to say I have a new quilting friend in Heather Givans of Crimson Tate, the designer of the fun and cheerful collection Succulents, for Windham Fabrics. 


On the plane ride home I saw this great article by Laura Strutt in Love Patchwork Quilting magazine. It featured her fun and quick to sew baskets "Nice & Neat", and knew I had to make some for my sewing room. I liked the easy to sew pattern design to create the functional organizers, but I didn't follow the pattern exactly because I didn't want to cut this beautiful fabric into small squares. 



These are made with solid panels of fabric instead of small squares.

    I like the sew baskets, they look great in this fabric line! I would make a tote bag and a notion storing pouch. I may try a sew basket also!

    Matt, I'm with you; preferring not to cut the Succulents into tiny pieces. Fabric baskets are awesome for any area of the home. Succulents provides for some foliage, at least the look and I so need that in my home. Thanks for sharing your creativeness and keeping the art alive for generations.
    P.S. I'm a Schnauzer lover too, two salt and peppers live here, Father and daughter:)

    I've made some fabric baskets similar to yours from Brett Bara's technique - they are so satisfying!! I have a few projects in mind, including a CloBird Designs purse with these fabrics! Thanks for the chance to win!

    Always looking for a way to keep fabric in tact, or at least in big pieces. Well, one way is to let it sit on the shelf, but I like these baskets on the shelf instead!

    These fabrics are so original and lovely! I would love to use them to make a wonderful lap quilt to give as a gift. But I would be sure to save some pieces of the fabric to use in future scrappy projects -- that way I would get to enjoy it many times over!

    I would love to try my hand at paper piecing by making a succulent mini quilt (maybe very mini). They always remind me of my friend's grandmother, who kept so many of them on the balcony of her apartment.

    I just saw the tutorial for the succulents wall hanging. I wanted to make that....then found out it was paper-pieced. Uh-Oh. So if I won the bundle, they'd probably go into a quilt.

    Those baskets are the bomb...I will likely make nested sets as Christmas gifts this year! This fabric would make a great guy quilt...I'm starting to stockpile quilt tops getting ready for my nieces and nephews to graduate from high school!
